5 Organizing Tips for Simpler Living
Juggle Chores
Structure and routine provides the basis of consistently managing everyday (and not so everyday) chores. Put your plan on paper and delegate chores between your family members. Designate a time for daily completion of chores and reward yourself and family for a job well done on a regular basis.
Write It Down
Trying to remember everything can turn us into worry warts! Writing down your intentions and then creating an organized way to actually keep up with everything is less frazzling for your brain. Just think of the good night's sleep you could have when you are not reminding yourself not to forget what you need to do.
Making It Fit Is NOT an Option
Where is the fun of putting things away if it has to be a frustrating battle? If you find yourself squeezing another item into the drawer, closet, file cabinet, or box, then it is time to eliminate. Make a date to take a look at everything in the overstuffed area and make decisions on what to get rid of. You will thank yourself the next time you have to put something away!
Go Green! and Opt Out of Junk Mail
Stop the junk mail in the form of credit offers and insurance offers by opting out of receiving them. Not only is your credit rating being lowered with every credit pre-screen, but your paper management can start becoming more time consuming and overwhelming. Opting out will also save a few trees by cutting down on paper advertisement solicitation that lands in your mailbox.
Situational Disorganization or Chronic Disorganization: Discover Your Style
Situational Disorganization occurs when one finds onself in clutter or chaos for a short period of time, resulting from an unusual turn of events or changes in your living arrangements.
Chronic Disorganization is found at the extreme end of the continuum, differing from severly disorganized. It is marked by its longetivity, interference with quality of life and resistance to self-help efforts.
Visit www.nsgcd.org to review fact sheet and questionnaire to determine if you are situationally disorganized or chronically disorganized.
