Emergency Preparedness
When Hurricanes Threaten, We Take Action

Living in Southwest Louisiana demands that emergency preparedness be a topic that I address.
In an attempt to meet the needs of others during a time of rising anxiety, you will find lists and tips to help keep you focused and calm as you prepare for unfavorable conditions from Hurricanes that may threaten the Gulf Coast.

September is National Preparedness Month.  Visit www.ready.gov/america for pertinent information on taking action and being prepared.
Top 3 Tips for Being Prepared
When Threatened by Bad Weather

1.  Video record or take pictures of the outside of your home and other structures on your property.  Record or snap pictures of the contents inside your home and other structures.  Open cabinet doors, closet doors, and all containers when recording or taking pictures.  These forms of documentation will serve as proof of the current condition of your property and help with creating an inventory of your belongings.

2. Gather all important documents and place in a carry file box for easy transport.  These documents should include identifying info, account numbers for all companies you do business with, titles and deeds, financial info, pictures and disc or memory stick with a back up of your computer files.  You may consider bringing along your manuals with identification numbers on them as additional proof of ownership.

3. Should you choose to stay at home and lose electricity, make sure you have fuel for your vehicles, propane for an alternative way to cook, plenty of water and dry foods, medications, first aid kit, dust mask, and batteries for flashlights and radios.  (Oh yes, do not forget the mosquito spray.  Those bugs are vicious after a storm!)
